Hong Kong is a Special Administrative Region (SAR) of China. However, they have their own border control, police, currency and speak a different language (Cantonese). It is easy to take both taxis or Uber. Hong Kong was a British Colony until 1997 when it was returned back to China.Because of thisa large portion of people living in Hong Kong speak English. Many expats fromthe UK still live there today celebrating many English customs such as high tea. HongKong is split mainly between three areas, Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, and The New Territories. Most people visit either HK Island or Kowloon but The New Territories is a rapidly expanding commercial and residential area as the rest of Hong Kong becomes too crowded and expensive. Typical dishes include Dim Sum, Roast Goose, Har Gow, Milk Tea, Pineapple Bread, congee, scrambeled egg/ sandwhich, pork bun, Wonton Soup, HK French Toast, eggettes (Bubble Waffle, Gan dan Jai). There are many open stalls on the street that sell delicious food (dai pai dong) and are integrated in to the Hong Kong culture. If you are interested in taking a day trip to Shenzhen just over the border with mainland china there are multiple ways to do it.
