If you are in Naples you must go to the best pizza place in the world (Pizza was created in Naples FYI). You must go to Da Michele, it is fantastic. However be careful as it is close to a ghetto area under Camorra (Naples Mafia) control. Be sure to avoid the Spanish quarter as well as that is another bad area. Also be sure to try Pizza Fritta, or fried pizza. If you like pizza, how much better do you think it is if it’s fried? All jokes aside it’s very good and not something we see a lot in the states although it is becoming more popular. The Montanara is basically a fried Margherita, so start with that. While in Naples visit Posillipo as it is beautiful area just outside the city. Visit the suburb areas of Positano, Ravello, Amalfi, Sorrento, Salerno and the island of Capri. You can do this on a different trip if you like but all those places are absolutely beautiful. I would recommend Positano (check out Restaurant La Sponda while there) and the island of Capri. I recommend staying in Posllipo as it has a tremendous view of the bay and is very close to Naples city center. The Best Western Hotel Paradiso is a great option here. You can always take day trips to the outlying suburbs or take a ferry from the Naples port to Capri very easily. While in the Naples area, be sure to take a car trip down to Pompeii. The Amalfi region is known for producing Limoncello so try that while you’re in the region as well as fresh tomatoes and mozzarella.
