Italy is one of my favorite countries to visit in the world. It has the most dialects of any lanaguage in Europe, especially those that are actively practiced, so don’t be disappointed if you are learning Italian, or feel you have a good understanding of it and are having trouble understanding Italians when speaking Italian. Since Roman times, Italy has had good water filtration via the aqueducts they built, so if you see them in Cities (especially in Rome) it is OK to drink the water, maybe carry around a water bottle so you don’t have to spend money on water. I love to rent a vespa or car in Italy and drive around, but be aware that everyone drives like they are a Formula 1 Race Car Driver. Lastly, always make sure to try food in some of the Osteria’s (sometimes spelled Hostaria) and Trattoria’s for local rustic food, not just fancy restaurants. The cuisines vary dramatically by region, so be sure to order local dishes in each region you go to!
